Mission

SEEDAN is dedicated to enhancing Nigeria’s agricultural productivity and food security by promoting the use of high-quality seeds. The association is committed to supporting sustainable agricultural practices, fostering innovation, and driving economic growth through quality seed production and distribution. SEEDAN aims to educate government leaders and farmers on the importance of seeds in agricultural development, ensuring that the seed sector receives the attention and support it needs for Nigeria to achieve food security. The association serves as a forum for stakeholders to discuss common interests, develop operational ethics, and mobilize its members towards policy formulation and compliance.

History
​
The Seed Entrepreneurs and Development Association of Nigeria (SEEDAN) is an umbrella organization for seed companies in Nigeria, established in 1992 and inaugurated in April 2000 at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. It was incorporated in 2012 by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). SEEDAN represents over 400 seed businesses, including all private seed companies and corporate organizations with vested interests in the seed industry

Our Achievements

Represented ECOWAS Countries: Executed a grant-aided project by Iowa State University (USA) on Seed Policy Enhancement in African Region (SPEAR).

Humanitarian Contributions: Distributed relief materials and seeds to internally displaced people (IDP) camps across North-Eastern States.

National Development and Food Security: Supplied over 180,000 mt of assorted seeds to various states during the GES program from 2003 to date.

Ebola Outbreak Support: Provided assistance to Gambia and Sierra Leone during the Ebola Virus outbreak in 2014.

International Seed Export: Exported high-quality seeds to Ghana, supporting its Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

Capacity Building: Partnered with AGRA, Iowa University, DFID, IARCs, FAO, WASP, USAID, CORAF/WECARD, NASC, and others to enhance the capacity of stakeholders in the seed value chain.

Private Sector Growth: Increased the number of private seed companies from 3 in 1992 to 440 today.

Strategic Partnerships: Collaborated with BMGF, AGRA, AATF, and NASC to establish the EcoBasic Seed Company.

Laboratory Upgrades: Enhanced NASC Seed Testing Laboratory with support from AGRA/PIATA.
